International Warnings Over Cyberattacks Targeting Critical Infrastructure
Several European nations are facing a wave of cyberattacks targeting vital infrastructure, resulting in significant damage to food supplies and medical facilities.
Critical facilities across European countries, including France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Sweden, have been hit by sophisticated cyberattacks. The breaches caused significant food spoilage after cooling systems in French retail stores were compromised, driving internal temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius.
The attacks extended beyond the retail sector, affecting three blood banks in France, where storage systems were breached, raising serious concerns regarding the safety of medical supplies.
Cybersecurity expert Omran Salem warned that future attacks could be even more severe, highlighting the potential risk to global undersea internet cables. Salem called for international cooperation to strengthen the digital protection of critical infrastructure.
European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, emphasized the critical importance of securing supply chains against these growing threats.
As of now, the perpetrators behind these cyberattacks remain unknown, as investigations continue to identify those responsible.
