Medical Warning Against Over-Cleansing Face in Winter

El Fadaly News Desk ·

Dermatologists warn that excessive face washing during winter strips the skin of essential oils, offering tips to maintain hydration and prevent irritation.

Dermatologist Ariel Ostad has warned that over-cleansing the face during winter months can be counterproductive, as frequent washing removes the natural oils necessary to protect the skin from dryness.

Ostad explained that cold weather and strong winds increase skin sensitivity, particularly when harsh cleansers are used repeatedly, which can lead to irritation and redness.

Experts recommend simply rinsing the face with water in the morning if it is free of visible dirt. When cleansing is necessary, it is best to use a gentle product and apply it lightly with the fingertips for a short duration.

Specialists also advise using moisturizers that contain ceramides, as these ingredients help strengthen the skin’s natural protective barrier.

Furthermore, reducing the number of cosmetic products used can help minimize the risk of skin inflammation or redness during the cold season.
