Flash Floods Hit Deir ez-Zor, Causing Casualties and Infrastructure Damage
Violent flash floods in the Abu Kamal region have resulted in one missing person and significant damage to homes and infrastructure.
The Abu Kamal region in Syria's Deir ez-Zor province has been struck by severe flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall, leading to both human and material losses.
Osama Arbou, head of the Emergency Directorate operations, reported that one person is missing and approximately 25 homes have been damaged according to initial assessments.
The floodwaters rendered the Al-Suway'iyah bridge inoperable, prompting Civil Defense teams to begin emergency repair efforts to restore the structure.
Several homes in the border village of Al-Hari were inundated by the floods. Authorities have issued urgent warnings to residents, advising them to stay away from valley channels and water runoff areas.
These developments follow a previous wave of flooding that affected the country last month, highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of the region to extreme weather events.
