Gaza: Displaced People Face Severe Humanitarian Crisis as Winter Begins

El Fadaly News Desk ·

Displaced families in the Gaza Strip are facing dire living conditions after heavy rains destroyed thousands of tents, amid urgent warnings regarding the cold weather.

Heavy rains and strong winds that struck the Gaza Strip between Friday night and Saturday morning have left thousands of displaced people without shelter, as their tents were flooded.

The Government Media Office in Gaza reported that approximately 70,000 tents were flooded within just twelve hours, while the Civil Defense stated it had received over 2,000 distress calls since the onset of the storm.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs highlighted a significant shortage in essential shelter supplies, including tents and blankets, needed to cope with the winter season.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned of the severe health risks posed by the cold to children, infants, and individuals with chronic illnesses living in these vulnerable conditions.

The situation is further exacerbated by critical shortages of fuel for heating, damaged sewage networks, and ongoing delays in the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
