Rainy Season Exacerbates Suffering of Displaced People in Gaza
Heavy rainfall has flooded displacement tents and damaged essential belongings, with UN warnings highlighting the risk of flooding amid poor infrastructure.
Displaced individuals in the Gaza Strip are facing harsh living conditions as the rainy season begins. Rainwater has seeped into tents across various regions, soaking children's bedding and destroying essential family property.
Strong winds have torn parts of the worn-out tents, while the Gaza Municipality reported that sixty millimeters of rain have fallen since Friday night.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned that hundreds of displacement sites are vulnerable to flooding, noting that approximately sixty-five percent of displaced families reside in tents unequipped for winter conditions.
Families are now facing the threat of severe cold due to a lack of adequate shelter, while damaged infrastructure continues to hinder efforts to drain water accumulation across the Strip.
