Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Loses External Power Supply
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear facility has lost its external power connection, forcing it to rely on emergency diesel generators to maintain reactor safety.
The International Atomic Energy Agency reported that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant has lost its external power supply via the Dniprovska line, noting that the cause of the outage remains unclear.
The facility is currently operating on backup diesel generators, which are essential for cooling nuclear fuel and maintaining reactor safety. The plant possesses enough fuel to keep these generators running for two weeks.
The Russian-appointed administration stated that the power line was disconnected automatically by safety systems, confirming that radiation levels at the site remain within normal ranges.
This incident occurs amid ongoing mutual accusations between Russia and Ukraine regarding threats to the nuclear safety and security of the facility.
