21 Migrants Die in Boat Capsizing off Senegal Coast
At least 21 migrants have died after their boat sank off the northwest coast of Senegal, with search operations currently underway.
Senegalese authorities reported a tragic maritime incident involving the sinking of a boat carrying irregular migrants, resulting in the loss of 21 lives.
The accident occurred on Saturday off the coast of Lompoul in the Kebemer department. Initial reports suggest that most of the victims were from the municipalities of Liona and Teube.
The Senegalese Ministry of Interior confirmed that only one passenger survived the sinking, while search and rescue efforts continue in the area to locate any further survivors.
This tragedy follows recent efforts by local authorities to intercept similar migrant vessels attempting to cross the Atlantic.
The Atlantic Ocean remains one of the most perilous routes for migrants seeking to reach Europe, frequently resulting in fatal incidents.
