Gadi Eisenkot Tasked with Forming New Israeli Government

El Fadaly News Desk ·

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has officially tasked Gadi Eisenkot with forming a new government, as he faces the challenge of securing a stable parliamentary majority.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has officially designated Gadi Eisenkot to form the new government. This decision follows Eisenkot securing recommendations from parliamentary blocs representing 67 seats in the Knesset.

Eisenkot faces a complex task, as he must secure a stable parliamentary majority within a 28-day deadline. His current camp holds only 48 seats, necessitating the expansion of his coalition base.

Various scenarios are being considered, including the formation of a minority government or reaching understandings with religious parties. Internal disagreements persist regarding the possibility of relying on votes from Arab parties to secure a vote of confidence.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanyahu continues to serve as the head of the interim government, as the political landscape remains fluid pending the outcome of Eisenkot's efforts to overcome these legislative hurdles.
