5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Shizuoka Prefecture in Central Japan

El Fadaly News Desk ·

A powerful earthquake hit central Japan early Sunday, resulting in multiple injuries and material damage.

An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck parts of central Japan during the early hours of Sunday.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the epicenter of the tremor was located in Shizuoka Prefecture at a depth of 40 kilometers below the surface.

At least 22 people were injured in the incident, with television footage showing shattered shop windows and glass debris scattered across the streets.

Authorities implemented precautionary measures, including reducing the speed of high-speed trains in the affected areas to ensure public safety.

Residents in the capital, Tokyo, did not report feeling any impact from the seismic activity.

Japan remains highly susceptible to frequent earthquakes due to its location in a seismically active region.
