Jordan Moves to Toughen Penalties for Terrorism Crimes

El Fadaly News Desk ·

The Jordanian government is preparing legislative amendments to increase penalties for terrorism, responding to widespread parliamentary and public demands.

The Jordanian government has announced the drafting of new, stricter legislative amendments to combat terrorism, following extensive calls from both parliament and the public.

The proposed measures include raising the minimum sentence for terrorism-related cases to fifteen years, while implementing cumulative sentencing for multiple offenses.

The amendments also aim to eliminate early release provisions for convicts after serving three-quarters of their sentences, ensuring full completion of the penalties.

New measures include the imposition of electronic surveillance and house arrest for individuals after they finish their prison terms to strengthen security oversight.

The Council of Ministers has decided to refer these amendments to Parliament under an urgent status within the next two weeks.

This legal step is intended to bolster the national security system and protect the kingdom's stability against terrorist threats.
