Israeli President Tasks Gadi Eizenkot with Forming New Government
Isaac Herzog has tasked Gadi Eizenkot with forming a new government following support from a Knesset majority, as efforts begin to establish a national emergency cabinet.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog has officially tasked Gadi Eizenkot with the formation of a new government, following his receipt of recommendations from 67 members of the Knesset.
During the recent parliamentary consultations, seven members opted to abstain from endorsing any candidate for the position.
Eizenkot has announced his intention to establish a national emergency government in response to the ongoing political crisis.
He has outlined four specific conditions for joining his prospective coalition, including the recognition of Israel as a Jewish state and adherence to the Declaration of Independence.
The conditions further mandate military service and the recognition of Hamas as a terrorist organization, coupled with the objective of dismantling its capabilities.
Meanwhile, the Joint Arab List emphasized that its support for any government is not unconditional, stating that their backing is not a blank check.
