Your skin as a mirror to your internal health
Skin changes can act as early warning signs for underlying health conditions, prompting the need for medical attention beyond simple cosmetic fixes.

The American Academy of Dermatology highlights that the skin, as the body's largest organ, acts as a reflection of internal health, with certain markers revealing underlying physiological issues or lifestyle impacts.
Dr. Bruce Brod of the University of Pennsylvania explained that adult acne might not be merely cosmetic but linked to hormonal imbalances like polycystic ovary syndrome, while dark patches in skin folds can signal insulin resistance.
According to media reports, unusual skin dryness may indicate thyroid dysfunction, while Dr. Saranya Wiles warned that psoriasis is an inflammatory condition linked to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke.
Experts also noted that yellow deposits around the eyelids, known as xanthelasma, can warn of high cholesterol levels, stressing that consulting a doctor about unusual skin changes is a vital preventive measure.
