Can owning a dog protect you from stress? A study reveals a surprise

A scientific study conducted by the University of Innsbruck in Austria showed that petting pets, specifically dogs, gives the body greater flexibility in dealing with stress later on.

Participants in the experiment underwent mental stress tests, where their physiological responses were monitored by measuring heart activity and brain waves. Researchers found that people who interacted with their dogs showed a less acute response when exposed to a second round of pressure.

Contrary to common belief, the results did not show that interacting with the animal removes stress faster in the moment it happens; rather, its true effect lies in strengthening the body's resilience against future challenges.

According to media reports, the participants did not perceive these changes themselves, confirming that the benefits of dog ownership may go beyond the momentary feeling of relaxation to include improving psychological and physical adaptation.
