Commerzbank Profits Surge Amid Acquisition Uncertainty
German Commerzbank reported record profits for the first nine months of the year as Italy's UniCredit continues its takeover efforts.

Commerzbank, the second-largest bank on Germany's DAX index, reported a net profit of 859 million euros for the third quarter of 2026, marking a growth of over 45% compared to the same period last year.
According to media reports, the bank's net profit for the first nine months reached 2.7 billion euros, a 40% increase, representing the strongest performance in its history, with annual profit targets set at 3.4 billion euros.
These results come as the bank faces an uncertain future amid ongoing acquisition attempts by Italy's UniCredit, which has already secured a significant stake in the German institution.
CEO Bettina Orlopp highlighted the strong financial performance, while the German government continues to insist that the bank must remain a key financier for medium-sized enterprises, as UniCredit awaits further regulatory approvals for the takeover.
